“Heyyyyyy, what’s new with you!?”
Pretty common way to greet someone when you haven’t seen them in a while, right?
Notice that we don’t ask:
“Hey, what’s old?”
Or
“Hey, tell me what I already know.”
We ask what’s NEW—because new is exciting. And that’s exactly why, as business owners, we can never rest on our laurels when it comes to marketing.
Why Ad Fatigue is Your Biggest Threat
Social media is incredible in a lot of ways. It gives us easy access to our target market, offers great potential to go viral, and makes it easier than ever to get in front of the perfect prospects for our business.
But…
…buuuuut…
…it has its downsides.
First and foremost: attention span.
We’ve all seen the effects of “TikTok brain” happening around us. Kids unable to sit through a movie, focus on homework, or watch a video longer than 90 seconds.
And here’s the thing: this doesn’t just affect kids—it affects everyone. Even your potential clients.
Not because they want to, but because they have to.
Think about it. How else are they supposed to deal with the machine-gun fire of ads coming at them 24/7, 365 days a year?
It’s impossible to focus on one thing for long when there’s always something new demanding their attention.
How to Keep Your Audience Intrigued
So, how do you fight against shrinking attention spans?
Don’t worry—I’m not going to tell you to start doing TikTok dances.
There’s a better way.
The solution isn’t to turn all your content into bite-sized 60-second soundbites. The real solution is to give your audience a variety of content.
Don’t give them just one ad—give them three.
Don’t give them just one video—give them five.
Don’t give them just one tweet—give them 50.
If someone is truly interested in what you’re offering, they’ll do their own research. They’ll sift through your materials and dig deeper into your content.
But it’s up to you to provide them with that buffet of options. Not just a single dish.
What This Means for Your Ads
If you’re currently running just one ad, it’s time to create three.
If you have only one video in your retargeting campaign, it’s time to add five or ten more.
The goal is to stay fresh and relevant in the eyes of your audience. Keep their curiosity alive with new options to engage with—and you’ll avoid the dreaded ad fatigue that so many businesses fall victim to.
Now go out there and create something new! Be fruitful with your content (or in other ways if you’d like—that’s up to you, I’m not judging).
Talk soon,
Kevin
